Teaching plan for 8A Unit 7 Grammar

Teaching aims:1. Maser five kinds of sentence structures.
            2.Understand the differences between English grammar and Chinese grammar
Step 1: Warm-up
Talk about sports, Olympic rings,and five kinds of sentence structures.
Step 2: S+V+P structure
Present pictures: Our school looks beautiful.
               The students look happy.
               We are excited.
From the three sentences, tell students which are subjects, the verbs and the predicatives. Tell students: predicative always follow a linking verb.
Ask students to think of some linking verbs.
Present a list of linking verbs.
Look at some sentences and circle the linking verbs.
Play a game called “hot potato”, anyone who gets the potato has to make a sentence with the S+V+P structure.
Step 2: S+V and S+V+O structure
Present some pictures (about students’ activities)  
      Yang Changhao is swimming.
      The girls are climbing.
Elicit students to analyse the sentence structure: S+V
Present pictures: Zhuang Shuyao is riding a horse.
              The students are drawing pictures on the fans.
Elicit students to analyse the sentence structure: S+V+O
Ask students to compare these two sentence structures, especially the verbs.
Intransitive verbs can’t take an object while transitive verbs can take objects.
Play a game called “finding home”
Students read a short paragraph and help the sentences to find their home(S+V
or S+V+O)
Step 3: Practice
Students will see some sentences and if they agree with the sentence structure, stand up, if not, just sit still.
1. Snow falls.
2. They are different.
3. We fly kites.
4. Spring is warm and sunny.
5. The temperature drops.
6. We like summer.
7. Ice cream tastes nice.
Step 4: S+V+IO+DO structure
Tell students that they did a good job, so Mrs. Jiang will buy them some sweets.=Mrs. Jiang will buy some sweets for them.
Analyse the sentence structure: S+V+IO+DO
Tell them IO refers to sb. and DO refers to sth.
They can change the order of the two objects if they like.
Practice: A short passage: Our school sports meeting is coming.
Our sports festival is coming. Ms. Zhang may______ us some advice. Tang Dingcheng can _______ our class a poster. ________will _______ the players some food. Maybe ________will ________ the players some water. ________ will ________ us some exciting news. Finally, Ms. Zhang will _________ us the photos of the sports festival.
Students read the passage and fill in the blanks with suitable verbs likebuy.
Ask students to rewrite the passage by changing the order of the two objects.
Ms. Zhang may______ some advice _____ us. Tang Dingcheng can _______ a poster___ our class . Xu Hefeng will _______ some food _____the players. Maybe Wang Yi will ________ some water____ the players. Lu Xiaoyu will ________ some exciting news_____ us. Finally, Ms. Zhang will _________ the photos of the sports festival ______us.
Step 5: S+V+DO+OC structure
Present a picture of my son:
Tell students that healthy food makes my son Yang Changhao strong.
Analyse the sentence structure: S+V+DO+OC 
Students can join DO and OC together and they can find out that OC describes DO.
Go into the sentence types and help them understand the sentences better.
 We            call    the man        David.
The boy         made    him           angry.
    He          told     us           to go home.
       I        found     it             important.
Compare S+V+IO+DO and S+V+DO+OC
Tips: 双宾可交换;宾补可组句。
Step 6: Play a game called “sharp eyes”
1.Lily shows me her new dress.
2.We made Daniel our monitor.
3.I found the story interesting.
4.Mum makes   me    a cake.
5.We call the panda XiWang.
6.She thought the bird beautiful.
Of all the sentences, which are S+V+IO+DO and which are S+V+DO+OC ?
Step 7: Chant (help students understand the sentence structures better)
句子主干,有规律;
先看谓语,来确定:
连系动词, ______
其他动词,看宾语;
人物双宾,_______
主谓宾补,_______
Step 8Class exercises
Level 1: choose the right sentence structure. (students do it alone)
1.They are watching TV.
2.Many boys are running.
3.He gave Tom a present.
4.I find it interesting.
5.Music sounds beautiful.
Level 2: Write down sentence structures   (work in pairs)
1. We have four seasons.        _______________
2. They are different.   _______________
3. Spring is warm and sunny._______________
4. We like summer.             _______________
5. Ice cream tastes nice.     _______________
6. Autumn arrives.        ________________
7. Snow falls.                     ________________
8. The clouds became dark. They covered the sun. it didnt rain.

Level 3: Choose one of the topics and write a short passage, using different sentence structures.
Topics are: my English teacher; my school, our sports meeting; my favourite hobby
 
Step 9: Homework
1. Go over the five kinds of sentence structures
2. Finish writing.
